Ok so I thought I would do a little blog post on this one. Believe me not because I am great at furniture makeovers but because it is posts like these that inspired me to attempt this in the first place. 

Like all parents struggle with all things kid related as far as crafts, toys etc. Where do they go and how will they stay organized? I feel like everyday I think about this at least once and look to streamline it even more. I thought I had a good handle on it as far as crafts. They are neatly packed away on a shelf. A shelf that my daughter cannot even reach. 

I recently made her a great art space in the basement where she could paint but sadly she rarely goes down there. It's just a basement and she's scared to go down there alone without her brother. This made me think about a few things. Is it wrong of me to try to hide all the things that make my children well children? If you know me I am super OCD with clutter so this is a tough one for me to deal with. So I'm compromising. I vow to make art accessible and fun. After all I much rather this than plastic noisy toys everywhere! 

What better place to do this than where we all gather everyday, the dining area. I call it an area because I have very limited space in my home. Our living space consists of one open room and a small galley kitchen. I didn't want to spend a lot and I needed it to have lots of storage for paper, paint etc. So I thought a dresser would be perfect! I knew I wanted to paint it an out of character fun color for me to signify creativity. 

One problem I'm terrible at painting furniture. It's always messy and sticky and never yields the results I want. I heard about chalk paint but impatient me didn't want to order it or drive miles to get it. When I posted the question on Facebook a lovely formerly local photographer gave me the link to make my own!

Better yet I was doing this with a FREE dresser. Now the funny story behind this is that when I posted that I needed one on Facebook an old friend said he had one steps from the curb for garbage day. When I went to get it he couldn't remember where it came from but thought it may have belonged to my parents. I didn't recognize it until I got it home and saw the yellow flowered wallpaper inside. So I guess it made it's way back from my childhood! Pretty perfect of you ask me. So now my children can enjoy a new and improved version of it♥

For my project I bought a small can of Glidden Satin paint and chose the color Deepest Aqua. I only needed 12oz total of paint to complete this with two coats. It went on amazingly smooth and easy. I must let you know that the greatest part about this paint is that it requires zero prep or sanding. That's my kind of project. The possibilities are endless. I now feel confident enough to do my kitchen cabinets! I cannot wait.
